In the future, every teenager goes through plastic surgery at the age of sixteen, and Tally can't wait. The only thing she wants is to become pretty, and move to New Pretty Town to be reunited with her best friend Peris.
After a trick gone wrong, she meets Shay, who's also on her way into prettiness. Shay though, want's to continue being ugly, something Tally can't understand.
When Shay decides to escape Uglyville and the surgery, Tally needs to make a choice: either to follow Shay and bring her back, or to keep being ugly forever.
This is the first book in a series of four, where we get to follow Tally, and see how she copes with life where being beautiful is standard.
